Dr Marc Faber is a Swiss investor known for publishing the monthly investment newsletter The Gloom Boom & Doom Report and is the director of Marc Faber Ltd, an investment advisor and fund manager.


Born and educated in Switzerland, he achieved a PhD in Economics at the age of 24. In the 70’s Dr Faber worked for White Weld & Company Ltd in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong. From 1978 to 1990 he was the Managing Director of Drexel Burnham Lambert (HK) Ltd, setting up his own investment business in 1990.

Dr Faber’s The Gloom Boom & Doom Report is an in depth economic and financial publication highlighting unusual investment opportunities worldwide. The report aims, based on economic, social and historical trends, to warn investors when investment themes have become widely accepted and are, therefore, highly priced and risky, while it continuously searches for opportunities in unloved and depressed markets.


Faber has a reputation for being a contrarian investor and has been called ‘Doctor Doom’ for a number of years. He was the subject of Nury Vittachi’s 1998 book entitled Doctor Doom – Riding the Millennial Storm – Marc Faber’s Path to Profit in the Financial Crisis.


Faber has become a frequent speaker in various forums and makes numerous appearances on television including various CNBC and Bloomberg outlets. His regular contributions to leading financial publications include Forbes and International Wealth, a sister publication of the Financial Times. Tomorrow’s Gold – Asia’s Age of Discovery, the first of his books was published in 2002.


He is associated with a number of investment funds and is a member of the Board of Directors of numerous companies.
